How easy is it to live in a bubble of melancholy?

Young Art Hunters is pleased to present Melancholyville, the last group show of 2024. Melancholyville is not an exclusively contemporary sentiment; rather, it has origins in Ancient Greece. However, it has changed form in correlation with the evolution of society. In fact, each epoch has given it a different name and semantic nuance: the Latins called it tristitia, to emphasize its sad and resigned side; the theologians of the Middle Ages acoedia, synonymous with laziness, even going so far as to call it the midday devil, because it affected monks in the hottest hours; the poets of chivalry love sickness, or the madness that affected lovers; the Romantics of the 19th century spleen, where it is finally acknowledged as having creative power.

Are we in search of a goal, or of its fruits?
The question arises from an innate feeling, so ingrained as to connect matter to its shell. What I find is not and will not be its absolute form, over time the shell of expectation is scratched, it crumbles, revealing many aspects without a rationale, revealing mystery. Building embryos from this bubble of emptiness, in which thought perceives the lack of information, I see a dispersed cosmos with foreign references. I need no other vision to explain the intellectual dispersion of a mind in constant refutation than the classic eggs of the animal world. They are an excellent deposition, an openly declared harangue on the transience of belief.

A quail egg, once hatched from the inside, no longer belongs to that animal, but will give a talking version of the shell, with exact colour and shape. The same cannot be said of the ostrich egg; it is not consistent with its animal counterpart.
Although one can recognise a variety in the ways in which procreation acts, I was able to stop it, like an immobile image in space. Preserving doubt and making reality an immovable conception has generated another kind of evolution, less conscious, freer from the general pre-established pattern.

artworks

Fantasising about the likelihood of a hypothetical empty being, a seed so alive that it imposes itself on motionless eternity, reflects the desire to break down the entire life process into various segments and the motives built up in the course of approaching the individual's ‘maturity’. (To add the part about returning to the original, hence unbroken egg)
Vorwerk brings back the mythology of an arcane balance, cutting the umbilical cord when the oval form has not yet made its matter known to show a universe of beings yet to be deciphered, in their ideal form. They can behave freely, within this shield they fight against canonical reality and communicate their perennial nonexistence.

Lynette Reed: Reflections In Duality

the exhibition

'Contrast is the essence of art and existence. It is what gives life to the ordinary and reveals the extraordinary'

Young Art Hunters is proud to present. Reflections In Duality, the solo exhibition of the American artist Lynette Reed.
The exhibition highlights the duality of Lynette Reed's artistic journey, which creates this duplicity by making more abstract and chaotic works on the one hand, evidence of her deepest thoughts and emotions, and more graphic and ordered works on the other, where natural and floral subject matter predominates. The artist's production converges, however, in the same substance because both types of works are engaged in an emotional dialogue marked by interior and exterior, noise and silence.

The abstract works, characterized by a chaos free from all constraints, are a reflection of his inner world. Colors and shapes alternate in a convulsive but extremely harmonious dance, revealing the different layers of his existence, his thoughts and his most intimate life experience. They are maps, made of impulsive brushstrokes representative of the chaos of thoughts that are gently smoothed by the wave of emotions. They embody everything from passion to joy, confusion to certainty, capturing the fleeting moments that define her.
In opposition, the flowers represent the outward face, the beauty we cherish and the control we try to exercise. They are neat, composed but vibrant and represent the armor we wear in the face of life's unpredictability. Together, these works are a celebration of contrast between our inner turbulence and the calm we project.

Hotel Piccolo Lido

the exhibition

Young Art Hunters, a Milan-based reality that has always been committed to the promotion and dissemination of young and emerging art, reconfirms its collaboration with Hotel Piccolo Lido again this year and for the occasion presents: Numphaion.

“To women the land, to men the sea,” it has always been said. This notion has perpetuated the idea that women are mainly involved in agriculture and rarely in maritime activities. Ships and boats, in fact, have long been considered a purely male domain. For centuries it was even believed that having women on board was bad luck, as they were thought to distract sailors from their intended course, drawing parallels with the mythical Sirens.

Yet Greek mythology itself teaches us how complementary the female figure and the water element are, telling us of several and multiple female water goddesses, beginning with Talassa, the primordial goddess of the sea, followed by a lineage of Nereids and Oceanines, her daughters and granddaughters. History is also peppered with female characters who challenged gender roles and left a significant mark, such as the Spanish flagship Isabel Barreto and the pirates Grace O'Malley, Anne Bonny, Mary Read, and Ching Shih.

Numphaion takes a bold course and sails toward gender equality. Through the centuries-old narrative and myth of the Ligurian lands, undertaken from the point of view of eight emerging artists in the exhibition, the intent is to make the audience reflect on the role of the modern woman, recognized as such, ready to finally achieve social emancipation and reunite her with those fantastical and real figures who brought female power to the mouths of men.

the exhibition

The exhibition is divided through several sections, each of them featuring the female figure, a central subject in Annett Gioia's art.

The women depicted by the artist, are true urban venus, as intangible as they are incredibly close to each of us. They are everyday women of different colors and shapes, who, silent, accompany us along a journey made of increasingly overwhelming emotions.

artist

Annett Gioia

Annett Gioia is an artist living and working in Frankfurt, Germany.
Art has always been an important part of her life, influencing her since early childhood, giving her a way to express her feelings and emotions through the use of different artistic techniques. For her, art is an opportunity to make the intangible visible, letting the instantaneous references of reality shape the works. Annett Gioia has participated in several group and solo exhibitions between Italy and Germany, Venuses is her first solo exhibition in Milan.

reportage

Light is a fundamental element, guiding and escorting us through the journey.
A glow that uncovers and caresses the bodies in their most natural poses and in their most intimate and everyday moments, making the viewer a silent spectator of those gestures and movements that are as delicate as they are captivating.
The exhibition alternates works on paper with oils on canvas, creating an increasingly close connection between the colors and the women depicted. Some figures are only sketched with India ink and pencils, others, reveal themselves charged and saturated in correspondence to the powerful research behind each pose. Her goal is to convey the depth and uniqueness of each person, whether through realistic drawings or a synthesis of essential lines.

The essence

wood, ground, essences

var. 180x120x120cm

on request

The essence is an evocative work that manifests itself as a scented wooden door emerging from a mound of earth. This door, however realistic and tangible, is useless: it cannot be opened. It appears in space as an island in the middle of a barren land, a destination at the end of an inner journey in search of self and essence. The door to 'the essence' is a metaphor for the existential journey. It represents the effort and commitment invested in the construction of a self that, in the end, remains inaccessible. The journey to discover the mechanisms of life is similar to wandering the sea and the land under the endless sky, day and night. It is an odyssey that requires one to go beyond the senses, to attempt to open an impossible door. In the space where the door emerges, the barren land suggests a destination reached after a long wandering. Yet, this door that stands before us, which we may have built ourselves with great effort, cannot be opened. This impossibility raises a profound question: does an essence really exist? Or is it all a mirage, an invention of our mind in search of meaning? A scent emanates from the wood of the door, a natural essence that permeates the surroundings. This smell is intense yet ephemeral, suggesting a presence that is both real and elusive. Perhaps, the essence we seek is not something to pass through or possess, but simply to perceive. Perhaps it is just an intangible scent.he essence sfida lo spettatore a riflettere sul significato della ricerca interiore.

The Cast-aways sculpture series explores the theme of the sinking of a natural form through the use of lead. These works are castings of pieces of branches, transformed into reliefs projecting a few centimetres. Presented flat and slightly raised, the sculptures cast a shadow or darkness beneath them, creating a visual effect of depth and weight. Lead, with its density and rough appearance, is used to evoke gravity and force that pull the branches downwards, like inert bodies adrift. This aesthetic choice is not only a visual reminder, but a tangible representation of the shipwreck of a natural form, which loses its lightness and vitality under the weight of metal. Cast-aways is a visual meditation on disintegration and loss of form. The sculptures invite the viewer to reflect on the fragility of nature and its ability to change under the influence of time and the elements. This series, with its powerful materiality, offers a profound reflection on shipwreck as an existential condition.

Breaking up/apart

wood, iron

140x60x50cm

To leave, to disperse. Composed of two parts, one in wood and one in iron, this work represents two entities that separate and disintegrate. The wooden part is a trunk that, rotten on the inside, has been burnt on the damaged side, leaving the other side with its natural colouring. The trunk, twisted and disorganised, vulnerable and fragile, emerges from the combustion of lived experience. The iron part, made of welded and electrode-burned sheet metal, is patinated black on the inside. The blackened surface and rough appearance of the sheet metal contrast with the strength and hardness of the iron, suggesting a similar duality of strength and weakness, suffering. The two parts, placed opposite each other, are mirrored in form, like two separate halves that move apart but remain linked by a profound visual and conceptual bond. Both halves show the burnt side to the other, revealing their own scars and vulnerability, the fire that united them. It is a silent dialogue between two forms, two souls, two flames that have met, loved and burnt together, and that now disperse in space and time. Breaking up/apart is a reflection on separation and disintegration. The sculpture represents the pain and beauty of loss, the transformation that occurs when two once united entities break apart, taking with them the traces of their meeting and burning. It is a meditation on the complex nature of relationships.

inFusione series

lead, iron, wood

var. 41x36x140cm

Including supports

the exhibition

Young Art Hunters is proud to present Purple Rain, the solo exhibition of artist Luigi Francischello.

The exhibition is a journey into memory through the different characters that inhabit the canvases, figures that belong to a distant time that the artist reinterprets in a contemporary key with the desire to open a dialogue with the great masters of iconography of the past, drawing inspiration from the Indian tables of the xv century and Japanese prints but also from Courbet, Botticelli, Waterhouse and Von Stuck.

artist

reportage

Subjects are depicted hieratically and statically, mixing elements of the past and present, introducing a distorted and personal interpretation of portraiture that explores themes such as identity, collectivity, and offers a unique look at the perception of art.
The portrait creates a fictitious world of symbols, rhetorical figures, and didactic representations that emerge from the subconscious and go on to interact unconsciously and consequentially with intent and narrative. The illusion is thus created that the visual field reveals a cryptic and hidden logic all to be decoded.

artworks

Purple Rain is a metaphorical journey within possible identities. It is the showy and ridiculous staging that manifests the unspeakable as a guarantee of the essential, the naked and cold tangibility. What is of interest is the monumentality of the semblances made so by the pictorial technique used, quick and instinctive but at the same time thoughtful and meditated.

The paradoxical works generated by the skill of the artists Federico Catagnoli, Chiara Cattaneo, Elia Panori and Mauro Valsecchi, reach out to the viewer in a path accompanied by only questions that can be seen in the materials and concepts of the installations. We enter a cave where light is the doubt and darkness the certainty of not being able to affirm any answer. The boundary of our perception lies in the will to cross it and cross new and undiscovered immaterial mysteries.

O Osiris, bull of Amenti! Thoth, king of eternity. I am the great God of the divine Boat who fought for you. I am one of those gods, the Judges who work the justification of Osiris against his adversaries on the day when the Words are weighed. I am a blood relative of yours, Osiris.

Book of the Dead

The Duat is a cave referred to by the ancient Egyptians as “funerary,” it holds the greatest questions that ancient civilization posed along with the hope for an afterlife that was not an end but rather, a beginning. By considering the Duat as a place-non-place without a specific time, we can enrich ourselves with numerous questions about the purity of the matter that inhabits the cave, the same matter where irresolution is the goal of the path that allows us to understand the limits of humankind and recognize the importance of vital sources without abusing them.

Flirt

Se scriverò,

scriverò testi disturbanti,

incuranti,

che ti marchiano a fuoco un segno

buono o cattivo

doloroso o salvifico.

Che inducono alla follia.

Che inseminano domande

come piccoli germogli.

Chissà chi risponderà.

Se reciterò,

reciterò testi insolenti,

veri da essere disprezzati

Che non cercano consenso,

non inducono a risate,

sparati come un proiettile

alla cieca in una folla.

Chissà chi ucciderà.

Se leggerò,

leggerò con enfasi,

fermandomi ad ogni frase che

alimenta l’inutile lussuria di

viaggiare con la mente.

E mi prenderò la briga

di saltare e di strappare

tutti i libri che io solo,

con l’arbitrio che mi vizia,

riterrò indegni, confondibili,

immondizia.

Chissà chi li raccoglierà.

Se fumerò,

fumerò sigari,

mi inietterò morte vera,

morte gustosa,

morte che mi assaggia, mi assapora,

questa notte.

Poi mi dice: perché mi cerchi

solo a volte?

Non lo so, rispondo io.

Cerco a volte anche la vita.

Busso a entrambe, vi corteggio.

Un po’ ci flirto.

Chissà chi si innamorerà.

Se crescerò,

crescerò solo dopo aver sbagliato,

dopo aver fallito,

dopo aver fatto soffrire,

dopo essermi pentito così tanto

che desidero morire.

Chissà chi mi accontenterà.

Se dirò addio,

dirò addio godendomi la sofferenza,

senza perdermi uno sguardo,

col terrore di un bambino

che ha paura di cambiare

il suo gioco preferito,

che non ha il coraggio di affrontare

il livello successivo.

Lo farò abbaiando come un cane

che si sente abbandonato

una mattina d’estate.

Chissà chi ritornerà.

E se, infine, morirò,

morirò suicida.

Perché non riesco a non pensare

che niente ha più valore della fine.

Che anche la morte,

con un po’ di fantasia,

si può rendere poesia.

Chissà chi mi piangerà.

Il gatto e il bambino

Amo i gatti.

correre,

scappare.

Per non farsi male.

Amo i gatti,

perché quando ti usano

lo fanno sinceri,

e ti chiedono il permesso.

Amo i gatti,

che ignorerebbero un tramonto sul mare

per uno spago che agito nella mano,

perché, al contrario del sole, è imprevedibile

e si deve meritare.

Amo i gatti

salvo poi stancarsi,

abituarsi,

e ricercare un nuovo traguardo.

Amo i gatti,

perché con le loro stramberie,

alla fine,

mi insegnano il mondo.

Che va vissuto,

inventato,

secondo per secondo.

Amo i gatti,

perché sono come questa poesia.

Confusa, slegata,

una follia.

Ma almeno è mia.

La maledizione degli ironici

Mi chiedi perché

non scrivo di te

E so che non scherzano

i tuoi sentimenti

mentre scherza

Dici

Una partita con me stessa.

È una tenera bugia:

Non si smette mai né di giocare

Né di invitare altri a partecipare.

E se gioco da avversario

O da nemico

Lo decidi solo tu.

È un enigma ciò che dici

Più di ciò che pensi.

È la maledizione

degli ironici.

Ti tradiscono la voce

E la taranta del tuo sguardo

È la condanna

dei sinceri.

Sono forse

la tua droga?

Ti avveleno dall’interno

mentre tu

mi spingi in vena?

Sei la vittima

di un mio inganno?

Ti sei unita alla partita

che gioco con me stesso.

Ma se giochi da avversario

O da nemico

Lo decido solo io.

Biography

"If it is true, as I think, that the world is an illusion, stories are the only way to dialogue with it, because they are made of the same matter". As a child, huddled in his tiny closet, Davide found in writing a way to do just this: delude himself. Imagine. Create new fictions to enrich his world. And, like this, know himself. Then, for a rather long time, he abandoned himself, lost in the intricate alleys of paths that someone else had drawn for him, too perfect to be his. It would be wrong to say that he has now come out of this labyrinth, and it would be wrong to take it for granted that he will really come out, but surely he has found the tools to seek the way. To "cut his own path". Phrase after phrase. Illusion after illusion.

BIO

Maria Orfano was born the 25th August 1995 in Arona, a small town on Lake Maggiore. In 2020 she completed her scientific formation obtaining a master's degree in civil engineering, at Politecnico di Milano. In her early adolescence she started to be interested in painting as a self-taught artist and she carried out a sporadic pictorial activity, whose main themes were still lifes and landscapes. In August 2020, after what she herself defines as "a sort of epiphany", she decided to completely overturn her approach to art, so she started to create works through the use of commonly used objects, combined with studs, which are the main trait of her new poetics. Thus the new personality of Acrylicneeds was born. Her main purpose is to show a distorted vision of nature, in order to create contrasts and to overturn the concept of the object. The main themes addressed by the artist are loneliness of human beings, existential distress and the desire for isolation from the outside world. With a provocative attitude, the compositions of Acrylicneeds want to invite to introspection, asking the viewer to change the point of view with respect to reality.

Il cerbiatto ha corna che sbocciano

sono ciliegi in fiore. Sta crescendo

con paura, ma poggia il naso

sulla mia mano tesa. Una carezza

di cui sente il profumo buono

riconosce la propria casa.

E vedo negli occhi pece

simili a pozzi profondi

Matteo Sanzi

Rien ne va plus

Il futuro è un acido che corrode

da dentro, mentre rapido corre

da te. All’oscurità sceglie

gli scatti spasmodici delle macchine –

se il buio è inevitabile, preferisce

non averne memoria: meglio

dimenticare la Storia. E se distratto

non ha potuto raggiungerti ancora

di questo gli rincresce. Come vola il tempo

quando si cresce.

Matteo Sanzi

Incognito

Di notte sono un ratto

che sgomita nei vicoli

per un briciolo di spazio.

Ululo a una lampadina

spenta, per credere

che non sia più vera

della sfera di luce novembrina.

Piccolo e lesto, manifesto

il non appartenere

alla natura umana

Terminata la finzione

lascio indietro il pelo

ma non la coda – e di sicuro

non il vizio. Avvicino

alla luna piena il mio cuscino.

Matteo Sanzi

Improvvisamente provo

un sentimento più profondo

della bestia che gridava

Amore

al cuore del mondo

Biography

Matteo Sanzi was born in Milan in 1997. He studied Physics at university, with a pen in one hand and a novel in the other. After graduating he attended courses in creative writing, poetry, and found a job that has nothing to do with the above: at least it fed him and paid the bills. He keeps a novel, an anthology and a translation of poems from English in his drawer. When he grows up he wants to write for a living; at the moment, he lives for writing.

BIO

Natalia Martìnez was born in Burgos, Spain. She studied Art Restoration in her hometown, completing her studies in Fashion Design in Milan, the city where she settled for a period of her life. Through her experience in fashion, she became interested in different textile materials from an alternative perspective: ribbons obtained from cut fabric. The union of her passion for tailoring and her previous studies led her to a love for precision and repetitive manual work, as well as increasing the importance of color in processes. Thus was born her passion for masks, an object that has been present since the dawn of humanity. Her works are created through the crochet technique, which she wanted to elevate to a more complex and free level, getting rid of the consolidated flat patterns with traditional and natural fibers to give life to the possibility of improvisation, transforming the flat knit into three-dimensional with a sculptural approach through ribbons, fibers and hardware materials, considered less noble and waste. This experimentation with the technique led her to the study of irregular and intangible faces. Her work is approached with the precision of the profession and the utmost spontaneity, bringing her into a dimension that combines art and craftsmanship.

Like silicon, whose polymorphic chemical composition can take on different connotations depending on perception and the surrounding environment, so the eleven artists in the exhibition address the themes of mystical and physical transformism, developing, just as in the story 'The Metamorphosis', a reflection towards the identification of the problems of contemporary man; such as: the inability of dialogue between people, the incommunicability of one's own needs and the exile of the different.

The exhibition thus aims to open a dialogue towards a social condition where one's personal identity is annihilated as a function of homologation to the workforce, and where alienation takes hold both in today's society and in the family context, creating real mutations in physics and thought.

BIO

Ylenia Pigozzo, also known as ipsilonpi, was born in Como, Italy, in 1988. She is a self-taught painter, since 2011. She has always experimented with various techniques and media, but her style has been abstract from the start. After a deep and transformative period in her life, she felt the need to share her art and focus all the energy on a personal project. She couldn’t continue her life as it was and art saved her. This is how her studio took shape. It’s currently based in the countryside near Lake Como, but it is a traveling studio, an idea that fits perfectly with her lifestyle. She has always created wherever she felt inspired, in every corner of the earth. This will be the philosophy: her studio is the world. She describes her art as being for travelers, because each artwork is a story of inner exploration or a trip to distant places, inspired by her traveler’s feelings and dreamlike visions, especially in this era of disconnection from our soul and nature. Her paintings are made of textures, colors, emotions and hidden stories. Follow the journey!

BIO

Marta Grimoldi is a photographer who graduated from the European Institute of Design in Milan in 2012. Since then she has always worked on her own for small web newspapers and for private individuals, at the same time she actively participated as an artist in events in the Como area. She carries out projects that concern her personal experience; Passionate about art since she was a child, she then studied at the Terragni art high school in Como where she came into contact with photography, a means of her, for her, to give vent to her imagination. At 17 she borrowed her father's analog camera and started taking photos: photography has always been a means of freely communicating her ideas. After a trip that lasted months in Spain, she realizes that she wanted to talk more with herself through photography, something personal. In her opinion, in fact, the silence and ritual behind every single personal shot is magical. She attended a course with Simona Ghizzoni and Cristina Nunez. Later Ghizzoni, would become her tutor for the Ground
Glass project.

BIO

Mauro Valsecchi was born in Milan in 1992. He began his studies at the Enrico De Nicola Art School in Sesto San Giovanni, Milan. Subsequently he began a course of study in artistic disciplines at NABA, New Academy of Fine Arts in Milan, where he obtained a three-year degree in Fine Arts (B.A.), specializing in Painting and Visual Arts in 2014. He concluded his training at NABA with a specialist degree in Visual Arts and Curatorial Studies in 2018. His artistic research revolves around the perception of reality and the visions of everyday life which manifest themselves as imaginative projections; in his works he tries to bring back that wandering of vision with minimal lateral glances, to distract himself from the already completely interpreted world that he is watching, and find a thrill of perception that reopens every time, to let unusual images arise from accidental appearances that no one ever usually observes. All the drawings he produces do not have an illustrative imprint but maintain a strong relevance to realism. Over the years he has developed a particular drawing technique which involves the use of colored powders and pure pigments, which are pressed with tips or dragged with a smudge to mark the paper, finally fixed with a lacquer or a fixative spray. This technique makes it difficult to sketch subjects and places from life, so he made up for this technical complication by taking textual notes which then turned into drawings from memory. Finally, his need to give a three-dimensional body to these designed surfaces: to move the canonical point of view, to be able to go around them, to lower or tower over the user, to play with perception to fuel a vision. For this reason, drawings, texts, everyday objects and photographs often become sculptures, installations, which occupy other spaces besides that of the wall.

BIO

Born in Milan in 1988, he enrolled at the University of Milan where he obtained a three-year degree in
cultural heritage sciences and concludes his student career with a master's degree in visual arts and curatorial studies at NABA (Nuova accademia di belle arti). The area of investigation of his research revolves around the concept of transformation understood as a constant state of impermanence and insecurity. Federico's art is articulated through different mediums: sculpture, painting and alternative printing techniques in a repeated search for an aesthetics of extraneousness aimed at creating images that evoke an idea of distance from their surroundings. The concept around his works is the reflection of the human being in continuous relation to this state, elaborating images that are a reflection of habitual survival strategies. All the subjects he treats revolve around this conceptual core, recalling fossilised forms, excluded from becoming.

BIO

Marco Sperini was born in 1998 in Teramo. A self-taught painter, he began painting in an attempt to give shape to the dreams that tormented him. Over time he became fascinated by surrealism and psychoanalytic studies.
His painting hybridizes dreamlike forms with waking bodies, creating constructions that proliferate in a timeless space. His studies as a physiotherapist and osteopath not only allow him to further explore and study the body, but also act as a stimulus for a deeper exploration of the human condition. The synergy between his training in manual medicine and artistic training creates a representation of the body characterized by a profound complexity, far from "true" anatomy and mere scientific vision.

Re-gen(eration) is matter that is renewed, that blossoms and is reborn to give birth to a new, young and unregulated movement where the artists who are part of it can put themselves on the line, stripping themselves of all those constraints that are too tight and often limit the purest artistic expression.
