How easy is it to live in a bubble of melancholy?
Young Art Hunters is pleased to present Melancholyville, the last group show of 2024. Melancholyville is not an exclusively contemporary sentiment; rather, it has origins in Ancient Greece. However, it has changed form in correlation with the evolution of society. In fact, each epoch has given it a different name and semantic nuance: the Latins called it tristitia, to emphasize its sad and resigned side; the theologians of the Middle Ages acoedia, synonymous with laziness, even going so far as to call it the midday devil, because it affected monks in the hottest hours; the poets of chivalry love sickness, or the madness that affected lovers; the Romantics of the 19th century spleen, where it is finally acknowledged as having creative power.
