David Bowie was already wondering this in the 1970s when he released his famous Life on Mars? which recounted the disillusionment he felt with the society around him. If he saw the reality now, he would certainly not be happier. The lyrics of the song tell the story, with surreal and alienated features, of a girl trying to escape from her everyday life by creating her own universe. This song has never been more relevant: for we all seek our Mars, to escape from the hustle and bustle of life, full of injustice and suffering. Life on Mars? The exhibition, aims to spur artists and viewers to find their own “permanent center of gravity,” be it concrete or imaginary, but one that offers new perspectives and lifeblood from which to tune in to a better frequency.
